Birdsong

birdsong...
all the coolness gone
from my pillow

I really enjoyed this haiku. The juxtaposition really got me thinking as I would have lazily presumed it should be:

"all the warmth gone from my pillow"

which would have been an obvious assumption.

Your haiku is excellent!

Alan-

My mother, my aunt and I all had a similar conversation a few weeks ago. My aunt had just bought an electric blanket and told us how she liked to turn it on a few minutes before going to bed so that the mattress and pillow were warm before she went to sleep.

My mother and I, on the other hand, prefer to leave the pillow as cold as possible, and sometimes I even wake up in the middle of the night to flip the cool side of the pillow up! It's a sure sign of spring when there no longer IS a cool side of the pillow in the morning.

Thanks for the comment!

Ah...you've captured a spring morning. And 'birdsong' is very effective. Without it, it's the middle of the night for me.

underneath
the pillow too...
